Personalised Private Sessions with Jeni

Somatic Movement Therapy

Working primarily with Somatic Movement techniques but also calling on experience and qualifications in dance, gymnastics coaching, fitness instructing and yoga teaching, Jeni provides comprehensive one-to-one sessions working on pain relief and postural alignment.

What kind of issues can Somatic Movement help?

One-to-one personalised Somatic Movement sessions can help you to live pain free and can assist with issues including:

       Sports injuries
Symptoms of physical traumas, injuries and operations
       Back and neck pain
       Other physical tension and pains
Symptoms of MS, Parkinson's and other conditions that
       affect muscular control and reflexes
       Increasing sporting performance

What is Somatic Movement?

Somatic Movement, also known as Hanna Somatics, is a system of neuro muscular reprogramming based on the theory of Sensory Motor Amnesia - SMA. SMA occurs when conscious and controlled movement becomes habitual movement patterns. As our sensory motor system responds to daily stresses and traumas, our muscles respond with specific muscular reflex patterns. Over time, if these reflexes are continuously triggered, we can develop habitual movement patterns which we cease to be able to consciously control, hence "amnesia" of the sensory motor system. SMA can be caused by this repetition of muscular reflex or it can occur as a result of physical injury or trauma or as a result of structural misalignments. In any case, Hanna Somatics is the system whereby you can learn to regain regain control of your mobility, enabling you to release held muscular contractions, recognise your tendency to muscular reflex patterns and thus relieve pain and tension throughout the body.

What can I expect from Postural Rehabilitation and Somatic Movement sessions with Jeni?

In an initial session Jeni will check your current natural reflex patterns and gather information about target areas with pain, discomfort or less mobility. You will be guided through some gentle physical exercises and you will be given "homework" exercises to practice daily.

Over a series of sessions, Jeni will re-evaluate your pain/discomfort/mobility levels and your conscious mobility and tailor the exercises accordingly.

How many sessions will I need?

A minimum of 4 sessions on a weekly or fortnightly basis is recommended. After that you will be advised on an individual basis according to what you require and what conditions or targets you are working with.

Systematic Kinesiology

Systematic Kinesiology is a complementary therapy which provides a natural and holistic approach to health care. It is safe, drug-free and suitable for anyone. It is an ideal form of preventative health care as well as a useful tool to treat many different health issues.

What kind of ailments can Systematic Kinesiology help?

Systematic Kinesiology can help a myriad of problems including:

       IBS and digestive health issues
       Weight loss or weight gain
       Physical tension and pains
       Low immune system
       Anxiety and depression
       Eczema, skin problems, rashes
       Phobias and emotional block

What is Systematic Kinesiology?

Systematic Kinesiology utilises the bio-feedback mechanisms of the body by muscle testing. It links neuro-muscular feedback science with the study of lymphatic movement and energy systems used in traditional Chinese medicine in order to gain information about how the body is functioning as a whole.

Jeni Howland is an accredited Systematic Kinesiologist. She studied for two years with the The Academy of Systematic Kinesiology and for one year with Gek-Bee Prout of Cotswold Kinesiology. In addition, and in order to be accredited by the Association of Systematic Kinesiology, Jeni has certificates in Anatomy & Physiology, Nutrition and First Aid. Jeni is also a certified Reiki practitioner.

What can I expect in my Systematic Kinesiology session?

At your first session Jeni will ask you about your general health. She will then carry out some simple tests to see how your body responds. You will remain clothed but will be asked to remove shoes, belts and jewellery or any restrictive clothing. Jeni will move your arms and legs in order to activate certain muscles. These are not strength tests but are a way to ascertain imbalances in the body's functioning and response. Treatment will involve various techniques including massage of muscles and stimulation of lymphatic points. Following your treatment, Jeni may give you advice on nutritional supplements, relaxation techniques and lifestyle changes.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends from one individual to the next. Typically a client will have three to six sessions at weekly or fortnightly intervals, followed by maintenance sessions every few months. Further blocks of sessions may be required if new stresses in life arise or if presenting issues are multi-layered.

Kinesiology has been a little bit of magic ... after just a couple of sessions I've felt a huge lift in my energy and resilience, the physical niggles that have been bothering me for months are almost gone, and I'm feeling like the person I want to be again. Thank you!

— Hayley

The way I catch myself sitting and standing when I’m not even aware of it is quite a remarkable change from when I first came [to see you]. I never knew it was possible to retrain the body and mind like this. Thanks so much for your help Jeni!

— Chris

I always feel much happier and energised after our sessions ... they give me a wonderful boost for the rest of the week. I already recommended Kinesiology with Jeni to my friends and family, and will surely recommend it to someone who is looking for a holistic approach to health.
